Classroom Instruments:
As students work through the various grades, they learn to play
classroom rhythm instruments, autoharp, melody bells, recorder, and
keyboard. Advanced students also participate in small performance
groups of a variety of instruments.
Role of Singing:
Singing is emphasized throughout the grades. Students
regularly sing in church, in music shows, musicals, and other
performance opportunities. Strong unison singing is promoted
through all grade levels. As students improve in intonation and
blend, part singing is added. A variety of repertoire is sung
ranging from simple folk tunes, to cantatas, to cultural music, and
show tunes. Religious music however receives the strongest
emphasis. Students in all classrooms regularly sing hymns,
psalms, and anthems that clearly proclaim the truths found in God’s
Word.
