Student Opportunities

All students participate in the following:

Church Singing-Each class regularly sings in church.  Hymns, psalms, liturgy portions, and/or anthems are sung.  Students sing in either of the early or late Sunday worship services.

Music Classes-All students have music twice a week for thirty minute class periods.  The national standards of music serve as the basis for all music taught.

School Musical-Each year students perform in the school musical.  Lower and upper grades alternate each year as to who has the majority of the work.  However, all students perform at least a portion of the musical.  Music revues, music history, fairy tales, and a variety of other topics are presented.

Music Show-At the end of each school year, all students perform two pieces learned in the regular music class.  The show is based on a theme such as dance, form types, composing, instruments, or styles of music.  Student introductions and student compositions are a consistent focus in the upper grades.

All students may participate in the following:

Piano Lessons-Lessons are offered from our independent contractors during the school day.  Each child receives a thirty minute lesson once each week.  Students in this program regularly play for chapel, devotion in the classroom, and during church services.  Students also perform in recitals several times each year.  Recitals are often held in our church.

Talent Show-At the end of each school year, students are invited to participate in the talent show.  Students can perform in a variety of categories.  Choices often include music.  Some students have performed piano solos, duets, or a trio.  Others have sung solos or performed in small groups.  Each year a barbershop choir also performs.  Teachers help choose pieces, but practices are done independent of the school program.

Upper grade students may also participate in the following:

Tonechime Choir-practice during lunch recesses and perform during church services in second semester

Handbell Choir-practice during lunch recesses and perform during church services all year
